Challenges for Businesses
Adolescent vulnerability often involved risk posed from outside the family home. Threats such as child sexual exploitation and organised crime gang’s recruitment of children can sometimes see businesses and venues unwittingly used as locations for either vulnerable children to be groomed or in some instances abused.
In recent years taxi companies and hotels have received negative media coverage, and in some cases licensing action as a result of poor practice. However, these industries are by no means the only businesses that need to consider their responses to adolescent vulnerability.

Experience
I have worked with a range of businesses locally and nationally to raise awareness of child exploitation and adolescent vulnerability since 2011. I have developed training and awareness raising programmes for both the taxi trade and hoteliers, which were co-designed with members of the trades to ensure they were relevant to the experiences of professionals and provided the appropriate levels of information for non-safeguarding specialists.
Awards
By recognising the unique challenges facing particular businesses I have been able to create bespoke packages to meet the needs of participants. I have been recognised for his work with trades, receiving two awards for the work I did with business – The NWG Innovative Work Award and South Yorkshire Police & Crime Commissioner’s Award for Community Engagement
National Policy Work
My practice experience working with businesses has led to me being consulted by the Home Office and other government departments in order to support national policy development. I was also chosen by a major hotel chain to support their review of safeguarding arrangements and by an international fast food franchise to help develop their internal training programme.
