Guest Lectures

I have experience of delivering guest lectures at several universities and colleges, across a broad range of departments and degrees, including criminology, law, social work and youth and community work. I tailor these lectures to meet the specific needs of students both in terms of degree-specific content and relevance to the stage of their study. I have a relaxed teaching style and encourages participation from students using interactive tools to encourage involvement.

Career Guidance

I have delivered guest lectures at colleges and universities on topics such as child sexual exploitation, modern slavery, wider forms of child exploitation and adolescent vulnerability. As well as teaching lectures, I have delivered sessions for several careers departments highlighting the challenging but rewarding nature of his field of work and potential career pathways.

Module Development

As well as delivering stand-alone guest lectures, I have supported a criminology department to develop its Simulating Justice in Practice module – aimed at providing students with an insight into the application of theory and knowledge into practice.  I developed a series of vignettes for students to understand the varied challenges of offender management, with their assessment requiring them to develop a bespoke management plan for the case study they chose.

Managing disclosure

I also provided university and college staff with support managing disclosures of both historic abuse and incidents which have occurred on campus. I have worked with staff to increase their confidence in dealing with a disclosure and how best to support students through an extremely traumatic experience.

Research

Having recently completed my masters degree, I am extremely interested in supporting and carrying out research into his area of professional interest and associated fields. I have acted as a practice advisor on a number of research projects and frequently reviews papers before their publication.
